Kiera Maylanie Johnson was born today at 10:28 a.m.! She weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 18 1/2 inches long.
Today was the baby's due date and Stephanie and I had been guessing back and forth whether or not she was going to come on time or she would last until her scheduled induction on Monday. We knew the answer at 4:00 Saturday morning – that's when Stephanie's water broke. It caught us off guard because she had had few if any contractions on Friday. We had even stayed up late talking and playing games with her parents – they arrived Friday afternoon from Snowflake.
After calling the doctor, we got packed up and left the kids with Lenard and Marilyn. We arrived at Presbyterian Hospital of Plano at 6:00 a.m. after a bumpy road (literally – the potholes on Parker Road made it that much more unpleasant of a drive). Stephanie was in so much pain that she was scarcely able to walk to the front door. The contractions were coming less than 5 minutes apart and she was already dilated to a 5. As soon as she got hooked up and settled into her hospital bed, however, the delivery went quickly and without incident. A mere four hours after arriving at the hospital, Stephanie gave birth to Kiera at 10:28 a.m.
We landed on the name Kiera Maylanie after several months of deliberation. We came up with the first name while reading a list of baby girl names. “Keira” (vowels switched) was on the list and Stephanie pronounced it “Ki-era.” I immediately liked it with her pronunciation and we kept it as one of our finalists. Maylanie is after my aunt who passed away at age 2 from a brain tumor several years before I was born. It is Hawaiian for "beautiful orchid." Also Maylanie is after Stephanie & her sister Melanie who have the same ending to their names.
Kiera is our third child to arrive on their due date! Dallin was the only one who didn't; he was 8 days early.

Congratulations on a beautiful baby girl! Thanks for posting all the cute pics. I'm so glad that everything went well.
I have so many questions and comments. First, she is adorable. Her little nose or something reminds me A LOT of Lance. 2nd, I LOVE that brown pink soft polka dot blanket. Did you make it? 3rd, why the switch in hospitals? You delivered the middle 2 in Allen, right? Were the other 2 induced on their due date? Oh, and how did you make those shirts? They are adorable!
Congrats again!!
Congratulations on your new little baby! She is beautiful!
She's beautiful! Congratulations Stephanie!
What a beautiful baby. Did Alexa have that much hair? How fun to have a new little one.
What a cutie! Congrats! So glad things went smoothly. Seriously love those shirts you made they are adorable! What a cute family you guys have.
We're so excited to meet our new cousin! Looks like a ton of fun!
Adorable little Kiera! I love the shirts you made. Glad Kiera made it here safely. We are excited to meet her this summer!
@Crystal: I bought the brown & pink blanket from Target. It washes up really nice & is an awesome blanket. I didn't switch hospitals; I used the same doctor and hospital as I did with Lance. I did, however, have Alexa in Allen with a different doctor. The hospital in Allen was horrible so that's why I switched when I had Lance. I went into labor on my own on my due date with the last three kids. And for the shirts, I designed them in Photoshop Elements, then sent the designs to the lady down the street to have printed onto special vinyl and she heat pressed the vinyl onto the shirts. Also, have you seen the kids church bags? I designed those too. :)
@Aunt Sharon: I had to look up Alexa's baby picture and she did have hair but mainly in the back. Kiera has the most hair of all of my kids (and I LOVE it!).
@everyone: Thanks for all of the well wishes! I love reading all of your comments. :)
