More January highlights

-We were pleasantly surprised…shocked, actually…that Dallin won first place this year in the Pinewood Derby! He beat his best friend Stephen by only a couple of inches in the final race. He also won the award for “Most Aerodynamic.” Way to go Dallin (and Jared)!

-We now have three kiddos in Primary since Lance joined Sunbeams at the beginning of the year.

-Kiera turned one on January 23 (1-23). It didn’t take long for her to get into the swing of things opening her presents. I made a display of 12 cupcakes in the shape of a #1 with a laminated, circle-shaped photo of Kiera on top of each one (birth, one month old, two months old, etc.). She has been crawling for a few months and started walking at 11 months. We LOVE this girl!

-Dallin was selected as one of three 4th graders at his school to compete in the district Number Sense contest. Number Sense is a mental math test. His scores improved each time he took the practice tests, and although he didn’t place in the top 5 at the competition, he was proud to be selected.

-For Dallas, it sure has been one heck of a winter. It snowed once in January, twice this week, and there’s a possibility again in next week’s forecast. It makes for a lot of fun in Texas but also for lots of complicated logistics as school, work and activities got canceled. School was canceled for four straight days this week because of the icy roads. The city doesn’t have a fleet of snowplows or sanding trucks, so when it iced over on Tuesday it basically rendered the roads impassible for four days until the temperature finally rose above freezing yesterday. Thankfully Jared was able to work from home, but it was complicated moving doctor’s appointments, play dates, etc. We had fun on Friday going sledding across the street with Dallin and his friend Luke French.
On Tuesday – the first day of the storm – Alexa was told not to go outside but did anyway and within moments fell face-first on the ice. She didn’t have time to brace herself, so her nose and forehead made the impact. It left a nasty welt on her forehead and gave her a bloody nose, discolored face and two black eyes that have gotten worse every day. She is really hoping it gets better before she has to go back to school this week.

That's all folks! Thanks for stopping by to check up on us!

I can't believe Kiera is already one years old. It's gone by so fast for me.
I love the closet you had built over the stairs. Clever! And it turned out so good. You'll enjoy having another storage area.

Congratulations to Dallin on his accomplishments. Cool cake you make for Kiera. Cute Sunbeam, Lance. Looks like a lot of snow fun!
