A new closet is built

Ever since moving into this house 2 1/2 years ago, there has been only one major thing that has bothered us...the half wall in the gameroom. Since it was positioned above the stairs, the noise from the room would be echoed throughout the house. Also, it posed a hazard for curious little kids wanting to know what was on the other side (a big fall!). We toyed with the idea of just finishing the wall but a friend of ours suggested that we add a closet over the stairs (which are a "L" shape of 8 stairs, a landing, and 8 more stairs). He offered to help but we finally realized that this job needed to be done quickly (since that room is constantly being used) so I hired a guy that I've had do repairs for me for at least 4 years. He quoted me more than half the price of someone else. After tearing down the half wall, it was discovered that there was electricity ran through the wall. He just rerouted it above the door. After 3 days of loud noise, dust, and mess...and emergency dental visits for me (my permanent tooth implant crown and abutment fell out and both my dentist and specialist were on vacation)...the closet was finished and we are SO happy to have it done!

The carpet you see is the landing of the stairs.

Back of the closet. View from standing on the stairs middle landing. We angled the back of the closet so there is plenty of clearance walking down the stairs.

From the game room...view inside the closet

And walla! Finished door, new carpet and padding, new texture, paint, and moulding.

We wanted this to look like it has always been there and it totally does. Even the carpet is the same (we found a remnant in our attic). :)

Back view from the stairs.

Toys back in place...

Next step is to install shelving...for now the closet is empty and we'll put in shelves for luggage at a later time. Money well spent!!!

Wow, that is really Awesome that you got that closet built! It looks very nice. It will be nice to not hear all the noise from downstairs as easy.
